My Writing About Kapahaka

Hi I am Teana and I'm Writing about Kapahaka

At kapahaka, I learnt the Haka easily.
At first, I was in senior Kapa haka but then
I moved to Teina Kapa haka because I was a year
4. I’m a year 5 now so I can go to Senior Kapahaka
and learn more about my culture.
Next hui of term 2 2019, the Senior Kapahaka
group is performing. We are performing 4 or 3
songs.

At kapa haka, I learnt the song E Nga iwi,
I never knew my whanau knew that song.
We also learnt a song called Te Temepara.
We are performing Tu Mai Ra too I like
Tu Mai Ra, and the song No Te A Pauri.
I don’t want to perform in front of the whole
school because I’m I scared I might forget the
moves.
If I make a wrong move I will just keep going
just like I did at production and poly club
performing.

Add/Sub Learning Story

Teana’s Maths learning Story
The Problem:
Unveiling
Marino and Julie are in Rarotonga celebrating her Mum’s unveiling.
235 people were invited to the celebration but then 68 people didn’t show up.
How many people came to the unveiling?

What different ways can you solve this problem?

How we solved the problem:
First I wrote my equation which is 235-68

Then I split the 68 into 35 and 33 like this
I split the 68 into 35 and 33 because I'm trying to get to an easy number to work with.

Next, I did 235-35=200 then 200-33=
I split the 33 into 30 and 3 and then I went 200-30=170 then 170-3=167
So that meant that 167 people came to Marino’s mum’s unveiling.

My other way
First I did my equation and I wrote 235-68
I split the 68 into 34 and 34
Then I did 235-34=201 and then 201-34=
Next, I split the 34 into 1 and 33. Then I did 201-1=200. Then 200-33.
Next, I split the 33 into 30 and 3. Then I did 200- 30=170 then I did 170-3=167

Working as a group is important:  Choose 2 to write about
I am good at….  because….
I am getting better at ….. because …..
It’s hard for me …… because …...
I need to work on because….

In maths, it’s really hard for me to explain my ideas and explain questions that people ask.
I think it’s easier for me to draw my idea and try to explain it in a different way.

I am good at explaining other people's ideas when other people don’t get it.
I can do this because I can see what I’m trying to explain and I will explain it.

Mult/Div Learning Story

The Problem:
Tickets for Matatini
On Saturday, Kate and Sophia took some students to watch Matatini for the day.
There were 4 adults and 9 children.
How much did Kate pay for the tickets?

People
One Day Pass
4 Day Pass
Youth (Under 16)
$22
$55
Matua (Adults)
$43
$100
Kaumatua (Elders)
$22
$55

How we solved the problem:

First I did a table and put adults and a dollar sign it looks like this

Next, I did 1 person and $43. Then 2 people and $86
Then soon I got to 4 people and $172
And that was the last thing to do then next I did another table but it had children and money

It looks like this

Then so I knew that Kate had to pay $198 for children and
$172 for adults, so then I did 198+172=? Next, I did place value

And I split the 198 into 100, 90, and 8. Then I split the 172 into 100, 70, 2, then I did 100+100= 200,
90+70=160, 8+2=10 then I did 10+160+200=370
So that means the Kate had to pay $370 for tickets.

My Tivaevae Writing

We read cook island a book and it taught us how to make a tivaevae
and what a tivaevae is. A tivaevae is like a tapa cloth, or a Ngatu.
The tivaevae has lots of cook island patterns on it and if it’s a Samoan
tivaevae or a Tokelauan tivaevae, it would have  Samoan or Tokelauan designs
on it.
It’s good to learn new things like how to make a tivaevae, because if you’re in a
group or something, and you are making something, then you would need to
learn how to make a tivaevae before making it.

To make a tivaevae you need material. You need material like thread
and a sewing needle, and also you will need to practice it and you need the
right colours so you don’t be angry at them. I think one of the skills the team
needs is a loud mouth so when you tell them where everything goes they can
hear you properly or you could say where all the right colours go in an interesting
way or an understandable way.

Room 4, can be like the team that makes a tivaevae, by working together.
We can work together by communicating with each other, but if you can’t
communicate properly then you can just help them to communicate with you
or others.

Whanau Play

At play, I like to go into room 4 and do arts and crafts because I like to use paint and glue. I do arts and crafts with Sheryl, Zaylin, Ierei, and Manea. When I am doing arts and crafts with them, I sometimes like to try and make a show with Manea.

Sometimes I like to try and create a phone but it's not a real phone, So you make the phone with string, and cups. Then you poke a hole in the cup and put the string in it and try to get the string long enough to get to anywhere. Also making the phone didn’t work because we didn’t have the right actual tools for it so it was an absolute fail like such a fail but it was actually worth a try. It's good to fail because mistakes help you to learn. When you make a mistake don’t change it, find a way to make it better, and keep trying till you get it right. Never give up!

Sometimes when Lincoln is here me, Karleena, Lincoln, Tinatali, and Darius play an undercover spy game. Our game that we made is when me, Darius, Lincoln, Tinatali, and Karleena are in the same school, but we don’t know each other. We all are spies but we don’t know either.

During play, I communicate with some people, but not a lot. I made communications with, Joyce, Tausili, Fuefale, and Athena. Me, Joyce, Fuefale, and Athena are now friends and I’m glad we are friends.
