My Polyfest Learning Story

My Polyfest Learning Story

“Smile, sing, dance! Look to the front!, not good. Do it again!''
Says Ms Collins and Ms Sophia.
“Man...Cook Island Polyfest is hard!” I say.
“Shh..ZIP IT” Says, Miss Collins.
Boom!, Goes the drums as Fuli, Tangaroa, Aka, Tea and Abby bang
the drums as hard as they can.
“EVERYBODY DANCE!” Said Abby.
Boom, Goes the drums again. “GUYS!” Said Abby,
“DRESS REHEARSALS ARE ON WEDNESDAY WE NEED TO GET THIS
DONE!”
“Guys, guys, guys, Here are your costumes” Abby said.
I think to myself “Guys?! I'm a girl!” I said.

“AHHHHHHHHH!!!! POLYFEST IS TODAY!!!!” I said
“What Will I Do!?!?!” I don’t even have black shorts!!!
“MUM HURRY UP WITH MY HAIR!!!” “Shut up Teana
I’m almost done gawd” My Mum said. “Oh no Mona  is
here to pick us up!!!” I said before going to Hosanna Church.
“Oh wait nah sorry we’re gonna go pick up Hopi tell mum to
take you there” said my aunty. I heard Journey moaning for my
Mum to come then he started a tantrum.

“Okay we are at Hosanna Church right now but how do we get in
and where is everyone else?!” Said Kastro. “Oh nah! They’re at
cannons creek eating fish & chips!” Lexis said.  “ONLY KIDS ARE
ALLOWED INSIDE THE CHURCH PLEASE WAIT PARENTS” Miss Adele
Shouted.
“Oh, there go to Miss Adele” Said Lexis. “HAVE FUN MY MUM SAID”.
“Hey Guys Mona’s here” said Journey.

During Polyfest
“IEREI, SHERYL, ZAYLIN, POKO, TEANA, WE ARE NEXT!!!” Said
Kymani. “I’m so scared!!!” “No, Isn’t the Tongan group next?”
Said Upoko, “no WE are NEXT” I said. Then Caleb comes walking in…
“Hey you guys are on soon, get ready” Says Caleb.
“SEE UPOKO I TOLD YOU!!! WE ARE NEXT” I said.
We all go to get ready to go on stage and we are giving the
Tokelau group high fives as they go and get ready for Kapa
Haka or they just get changed.  It’s our turn next. Oh my God,
I was so scared, and here we are singing Kuki Airani and then we
end with a drum dance.
At the end, I felt proud of myself for taking a
risk of not being a shy person like miss Trish sometimes is, I also felt
happy after the dance because after was Kapa Haka.
When I remember about Kapa Haka that I got nervous again
and as we did Kapa Haka none of the boys listened to Matua
Todd, They did the Haka way too fast, so I felt embarrassed.
I said to myself, “That was the best night ever, I hope it happens
again”.
